The remains of the father-in-law of the Editor-in-Chief of Warri Mirror (Alex O. Eyengho), was on Saturday, November 24, 2007 buried in Warri, amidst pump and pageantry. The late Pa Daniel Ejejigbe was aged 82.
Among those who either sent condolence messages to Mr. Eyengho and/or physically attended the burial ceremony in Warri were the Governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan; Chief (Mrs.) Rita Lori-Ogbebor; Mr. Chris Mammah, Hon. Temiyemi Harriman, Mr. Peter King Edukugho, Chief Francis Omatseye and Chief Edema-Ofoni.
Others are Mrs. Patricia Dede, Otuedon, Barr. Bolatsi Dudu, Ijaghala Community, Mr. Emmanuel Okotie-Eboh, Hon. David Atikpekpe; Mr. Aboyewa Ikomi, Engr. Alex Neyin, Mr. Temi Tuedor, Mr. Oritseneye Enemigin; Mr. Alfred Omagbemi (Okerenkpelebe), Mrs. Roli Harriman, Barr. Edward Ekpoko; Barr. Austin Oboroegbeyi, Warri Mirror Editorial Team; Mr. Femi Odonmeta and a host of others.
Papa was born on April 8, 1926 at Burutu, in Warri South West Local Government, then Western Division. Pa Daniel lived his life as a gentle man, as well as an erudite marine Engineer.
He attended Government School and graduated with standard six pass certificate. He was employed in UAC (United Africa Company) for some years and later left for Delta Boatyard as an Assistant Captain of the boat. He was also in John Holt.
Papa later joined the Nigerian Police where he rose to the rank of an officer, but later resigned in 1979 to return to his marine profession as the Administration Manager of NCTC.
Papa later joined R.O International, a contract company to NNPC. He was attached to the Nigeria National Petroleum Company as a Supervisor in security department.
Papa ‘Ayoyo’ believed in the rule of law and democratic institutions. Throughout his lifetime, he lived a life worthy of emulation.
He was a loving father who ensured that all his children were okay.
Towards the end of his life, Papa in May 2007 gave his life to Christ and made restitution and took his faith, seriously, until movement became difficult for him.
He died quietly in his home surrounded by his children and grandchildren.
