A Reflection Of A Rich Heritage

A BRIEF ABOUT US

We started this arduous journey on Wednesday, August 9, 2000. We have come a long way as a leading grassroots print medium publishing for the Warri and Niger Delta market. Like Kamikaze fighters, we took a plunge into this unpredictable turbulent sea. If we thought the journey was going to be tough, it was tougher than we imagined.
However, we stayed on. We have consistently published, without fail since August, 2007. Our vision remained our driving force. We were determined to cause a cultural revolution in the Niger Delta region and Warri in particular by showcasing our arts and culture, fashion, entertainments, music and sports, in a most professionally acceptable manner.
Many, particularly the political class misunderstood our role because we chose to practice our profession objectively and without fear or favor. We wanted a grassroots print medium that would inform, educate, mobilize, socialize and entertain. Pen and photographs became our main weapon.
Today, we are happy to inform our readers worldwide that Warri Mirror has become the hottest cake in Delta State. Warri Mirror, which kicked off as a newspaper in 2000 but transformed into a full news magazine on October 9, 2006, has, by the grace of Almighty God, become a solid brand, particularly in the grassroots genre of print journalism. We have succeeded against all odds and by the grace of God in producing a professionally acceptable grassroots print medium that has become the pride of “Wafferians” all over the world.

We have contributed immensely to the socio-cultural and political growth of Warri and environs. We have the evidence. No politician or policy maker worth his salt today in Warri and Delta State at large can ignore Warri Mirror. Every stakeholder picks one thing or the other from every edition of the medium.

We have also contributed generously to the positive image of Warri and “Wafferians” without any reasonable patronage from the three (South, North and South-West) Local Government Councils that make up Warri. None from the Delta State Government either; even though many Warri and Delta stakeholders have appeared on the pages of Warri Mirror. We have demonstrated clearly that Warri does not enjoy a monopoly of crisis and disaster. Our Annual Anniversary Public Lecture has added value and indeed improved the polity of the area.
There has been several grand plots by some members of the political class from our targeted audience, to shoot Warri Mirror down at all costs. In fact, these set of people are utterly shocked that Warri Mirror is growing from strength to strength, despite starving it of advertisements and any form of patronage (Government or Private). There is a standing order from the very top that Warri Mirror should not be patronized. Our simple reaction to this: God is on His Throne!

We in Warri Mirror are not opportunists and therefore cannot afford to operate on a spineless neutrality basis, particularly in the major issues that affect the well being of our people. We shall continue to be partisan on the side of truth, justice and good government. We shall continue to queue behind the truth, even if we are standing alone. It does not mater whether or not we are patronized in terms of advertisements, grants, etc. by those presently in government at all levels, who incidentally monopolize our common wealth to the detriment of the majority. We shall continue to tell our stories and narrate events primarily in terms of people in a most professional form. We shall perpetually be guided by the desire to restore the primacy of a vigorously probing tradition, particularly at the grassroots level.
We thank all those who have stood by us through thick and thin. Many silent people offered us financial and moral support. God knows you all and He will continue to bless you and all that is yours. Please, continue to pray for our success so that one-day, soon, we shall be in a position to rejoice and celebrate our success together.
Our dream is to publish a grassroots print medium that can beam its searchlight on Niger Deltans and “Waffarians” in particular across the world. As your darling Warri Mirror continues to wax stronger despite intimidations and sinister gang-up by over 98 per cent of our politicians in government today, we are receiving tens and hundreds of e-mails, letters and telephone calls on a daily basis. Over 90 per cent of the mails and phone calls praised our efforts and pray for our success to endure. We thank the good men and women who take the pain to write to us or phone us from all over the world. It is hard to imagine the love our readers have extended to us. We thank you all for your kindness. May God Almighty continue to bless you and your families.
There are those, about 10 per cent, who are highly critical of our work. We also thank them for the criticisms. We are humble enough to learn from your suggestions and sometimes, abuses. We know that we are far from being perfect. In fact, your criticism is positively contributing to our rapid growth. Those who know what publishing is all about would salute our courage and effort in struggling to consistently produce a professionally acceptable grassroots print medium.
We pride ourselves with being able to sustain this medium through the incredible dedication of a less than normal number of editorial crew. Our secret has been the DIY (Do It Yourself) strategy. Slow and steady wins the race. Whatever imperfections we have today  will certainly disappear tomorrow.
