Chevron Wants Boost In Local Content Policy

Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) has stressed the need for indigenous contractors in the oil sector to continue to develop themselves to sustain the local content policy of the Federal Government.
General Manager of CNL, Mr Femi Odumabo, said at the opening of a two-day colloquium on local content development for stakeholders held at the Chevron Recreation Club, Warri, that the capacity building would enable them compete with their counterparts from abroad.
He emphasised that the Local Content Development Policy creates opportunities for wealth making among the indigenous contractors and that the sustainability of the policy lies in the development of our capacity.
Mr.Odumabo enjoined all and sundry to be cautious, stressing that we must focus on the right thing by building our capacity to be able to stand in the face of unfettered competition.
According to him, the colloquium would help the stakeholders to catch up on new developments and emerging technologies in the oil and gas industry through a healthy exchange of ideas between Chevron and its other partners.
“As we do this, I want to emphasise on the need for us to look beyond today. We should consider ways by which we can make our businesses as contractors in the oil and gas to be sustainable,” remarked Odumabo, insisting that all stakeholders, including the oil industry should work together to achieve and surpass the target that have been set by the federal government.
The company boss further emphasised that the Local Content Development Policy creates opportunities for wealth making among the contractors, adding that the sustainability of the policy lies in the development of our capacity.
Participants at the colloquium included all host communities’ leaders, elders, youths and women groups.
