Oil and gas production figures from the different States and Communities of the Niger Delta are kept in custody of the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR). But for political reasons, the figures are usually kept top secret. The figures quoted here were obtained under strong confidential cover from an undisclosed source. Though these 2004 oil production figures are three years old, they are the latest available on Delta State. They represent an approximation of the daily oil production volumes and percentages by communities in the listed Local Government Areas.

            The above rough analysis shows that two (Warri North and South-West) of the three Warri Local Government Areas produce approximately 60 per cent of the State’s total oil daily production. No production is recorded for Warri South Local Government Area because the facilities in the two major oil producing fields in this area that were severely destroyed during the Itsekiri/Ijaw hostilities have not been rehabilitated for oil production to resume.
